Aerospace Fasteners Standards: What You Need To Know

History Of Aerospace Fastener Standards
Aerospace fastener standards weren’t always around. In fact, you have to go back to the mid-1940s before you start to see quality control standards forming. The researchers at the International Fastener Expo put together a detailed timeline of how we got to where we are today. Here’s a glimpse at what they found.
- February 16, 1946: The American Society for Quality Control (ASQC) is established. Its purpose is to preserve and improve the quality control standards established during World War II. It has since been renamed The American Society for Quality. The ASQ keeps track of military and international standards that have been adopted.
- March 1987: The International Standards Organization publishes the first edition of the ISO 9000 family of standards. ISO 9001 was eventually accepted globally for product quality assurance.
- October 1999: The Society of Automotive Engineers and the European Association of Aerospace Industries publish AS9100 standards for Quality Management Systems to replace AS9000.
